The Clinton Herald Saturday May 26, 2001 p. 9A Florence "Tootie" E. Holdgrafer, 82, of Preston, died Thursday at the Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Preston, with the Rev. Don Baewell officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston with a scripture wake service to begin at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery in Clinton. She was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Sugar Creek to William and Anna Ziser Franzen. She married Alvie Holdgrafer on Nov. 4, 1937, in Sugar Creek. He died March 30, 1988, in Davenport. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in the Spragueville area for 25 years. She also had been employed with the Preston Creamery and the Sabula Speaker Factory. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Marilyn (Frank) Hamilton of Maquoketa and Mrs. Joyce (George) Stone of Preston; seven sons, Larry Holdgrafer, Jerry Holdgrafer, Charles Holdgrafer, Thomas Holdgrafer and Glenn Holdgrafer, all of Spragueville, Donald Holdgrafer of Springbrook and Robert Holdgrafer of Maquoketa; 27 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alma Portz and Loretta Howard, both of Preston; and a brother, August Franzen of Sabula. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, a son, three sisters and three brothers. Death date: May 24, 2001.
