The Clinton Herald Thursday March 31, 1988 p. 14 Alvie William Holdgrafer, 76, of Preston, died Wednesday in St. Luke's Hospital, Davenport. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Mel Hemann officiating. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today in Miller Funeral Home, and from 9 a.m. until the service hour Friday in the Church. A 7 p.m. scripture service will be held in the Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, Clinton. Pallbearers will be Rodney, Tony, Scott, Gregg and Kenneth Holdgrafer, and Joe Fier. Mr. Holdgrafer was born May 1, 1911, near Clinton, to William and Thersa Rose Holdgrafer. He married Florence Franzen, Nov. 4, 1937. The couple farmed near Spragueville until their retirement in 1971 when they moved into Spragueville. They moved to Preston in 1984. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Franklin (Marilyn) Hamilton of Maquoketa, and Mrs. George (Joyce) Stone of Beaver Dam, Wis.; seven sons, Jerry of Springbrook, Larry, Charles, Tom and Glen, all of Spragueville, Donald of Maquoketa, and Bob of rural Preston; 22 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Fier and Mrs. Eva Bormann, both of Clinton; and a brother, Joe, of Clinton. He was preceded in death by a daughter, a son, two sisters and three brothers.
