The Clinton Herald Wednesday April 24, 1912 p. 8 One of the old settlers of Hampshire township, John Dietrick Holdgrapher, died Tuesday night on the old homestead about nine miles west of this city at about 10 o'clock, after an illness of about one week, at the age of 70 years. Death was due to old age and a complication of diseases. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock at the St. Boniface Catholic church, Rev. Father J.M. Tritz officiating. Interment will be in St. Boniface cemetery. Mr. Holdgrapher was born in Hanover, Germany, January 21, 1842, and come to this country with his parents when a very small boy. They settled near Galina, Ill., where they resided until Mr. Holdgrapher was an young man and had received his early education in the schools of that vicinity. When about 20 years of age the deceased was married to Miss C. Wubben of Galena. the marriage taking place in that city. Shortly after this they came to Iowa where they settled on a farm and have always resided there. Mr. Holdgrapher was known throughout this vicinity for his king-hearted ways and had many friends. The deceased leaves to mourn his death, his widow and ten children, William D. residing in the country; Henry of Williams, Ia.; Mrs. Elizabeth Wagenmester, west of city; Bernard, Highland, Wis.; Frank, Naples, S.D.; Sister Martina, North Washington, Ia.; Mrs. Lena Knowl, Haverhill, Ia.; John, west of city; Clem, near Bryant; Miss Cecilia at home. He also leaves two brothers, John Holdgrapher of Lyons and Henry Holdgrapher of Haverhill, Ia.
