Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa.

SERVICES: 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ruth Ann Scott officiating.

MAQUOKETA — Claude H. Beck, 84, of Maquoketa, died Sunday at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue.

Graveside services and burial will be Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery, Delmar.

He was born Oct. 9, 1921, in Maquoketa to Henry and Louise Zismer Beck. He married Nadine M. Chandler on June 22, 1953, in Kahoka, Mo. She died in 2002.

He was a 1939 graduate of Maquoketa High School. He graduated in 1941 from Maquoketa Junior College and attended the University of Iowa as a civil engineering student before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

During World War II, he served as a navigator and flew many missions.

After the war, he worked with Trans Caribbean Airlines as a navigator and remained in the Air Force Reserve for many years, earning the rank of lieutenant colonel before retiring in 1981. He worked with Jackson State Bank from 1950 to 1955 and Clinton Engines in the accounting department. He then worked with radio station KMAQ, Maquoketa, in the advertising and sales department until 1971. He returned to banking in 1973 before retiring from Hawkeye Bank and Trust in 1983. He worked part time as a projectionist at the Pastime Theater and was house manager of the Chief Theater, Maquoketa.

He was a past president of the Maquoketa Country Club and served more than 20 years on the Maquoketa Airport Commission. He was a charter member of the Maquoketa Optimist Club, founding it in 1961. He was a post commander of VFW O’Connor-Regenwether Post 3633, Maquoketa.

Survivors include one son, Mark (Kendra) Beck of Maquoketa; and two grandchildren.

A Claude H. Beck Memorial Fund has been established.
