George Adams Tallmadge Jr.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.

SERVICES: Funeral service and burial will be in San Marcos (Texas) Cemetery.

SAVANNA, Ill. — George Adams Tallmadge Jr., 91, of Savanna, died Monday at the Iowa Veterans Hospital.

He was born to George and Lowella Rylander. He married Jewel I. Gallagher in 1957; they later divorced. He later married Rebecca Tallmadge. She died in 1993.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army prior to World War II. He was one of the survivors who stormed the beaches of Normandy during the European liberation. He went on to serve under General Patton.

He worked in his father’s photography studio throughout the Great Depression. He was a chemist. He owned his own lab in Corpus Christi, Texas. In the 1960s, he began civil service work with the Savanna Army Depot. He worked at the depot from 1968 until his retirement in 1973.

He was a Mason and member of the Savanna Rotary.

Survivors include one son, George Adams Tallmadge III; and two nephews.
