FOLEY, Ala. — Bernard C. “Barney” Cooper, 78, of Foley and formerly of Clinton, died Friday.
Burial will be in Rock Island (Ill.) National Cemetery.
He was born April 26, 1928, in Clinton to Arthur and Bessie Parchen Cooper.
He served with the U.S. Navy for 10 years during World War II and the Korean Wars.
While in the Navy, he was a wrestler and member of the Navy boxing and football teams.
He was a police officer and later a firefighter at the Rock Island Arsenal. He retired as a federal firefighter at the Yuma Proving Grounds in 1978. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Foley and Emulation Masonic Lodge 255 in Clinton.
Survivors include one son, Bradley M. Cooper of Clinton; one daughter, Cynthia (Kendall) Gooch of Foley; Lloyd Noel of Galesburg, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
