The Clinton Herald Thursday August 31, 1989 p. 24 The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Friday in Elvira Zion Lutheran Church for Clarence H. Dierks, 88, of Wyndcrest Nursing Home, who died Tuesday in the home. The Rev. Gregory Friedrick and Dr. Roger Dierks, son of the deceased, will co-officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today in Clinton Memorial Chapel, Clinton Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be in Clinton Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donald and Elmer Stuedemann, Richard Mommsen, Earl Bartels and Llewellyn Kube and Wilmer Mess. Mr. Dierks was born Dec. 15, 1900, in Clinton County, to John D. and Magdelena "Lena" Kruse Dierks. He married Florence W. Benson, Feb. 27, 1924, in Clinton. She died in 1987. He attended the rural Clinton schools and lived in Clinton County his entire life. He farmed in the DeWitt and Elvira area, retiring in 1969. He drove school bus for Elvira Consolidated School System for 19 years. Mr. Dierks was a member of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church. He had been active in the Clinton Bowling Association, where he bowled for the harry Turner Barbershop Team and was known as "Cannon Ball." Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Henry J. "Buck" (Darlene A.) Fries, of Clinton; a son, Dr. Roger C., of Indianapolis, Ind.; two grandsons; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Helen) Rogge, of Ida Grove, Iowa; and a brother, John Dierks, of Rock Island. He was preceded in death by a daughter, three brothers and a sister.
