THE CLINTON HERALD -JULY 23, 1909 PROMINENT FARMER ANSWERS SUMMONS Death of Detlef Dierks of Hampshire Township occurs today. Son of John Peter Dierks and Catherine Lass Dierks found dead in bed. Heart trouble and complications cause. Deceased was well known in Clinton County. The funeral will take place Monday afternoon.
At his home West of town this morning occurred the death of Detlef Dierks, a well known resident of Hampshire Township. On his failing to respond to calls this morning at 5 o'clock, an investigation was made, resulting in finding the dead body. Some hours earlier he was heard about the house, proving that death had come at an early hour this morning. Heart trouble with complications was the cause of death.
Deceased was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany May 26, 1845; when a young man he came to this country locating in Hampshire Township where he made his home until his death. he was a man very well known in Clinton County, at one time holding a position as Township Trustee. Well respected, honest, upright, a loving husband and father, a true friend and a kindly neighbor, his loss will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
He leaves a wife and five children as follows; Mrs. Henry Pahl of Clinton, Mrs. Gus Ladehoff of Lyons, Hans Dierks of Clinton, John of Elvira, and Herman at home. The funeral will take place from the residence Monday afternoon at 1:30 followed by internment in the Dierks cemetery.
