The Clinton Herald Monday July 19, 1954 p. 11 Harlen Eggers, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Eggers of 704 N. 3rd St., Clinton was killed instantly at 12:45 a.m. (CST) today in a two-car collision one-half miles east of her on Highway 64. The fatality was Jackson county's first this year in traffic accidents. Young Eggers was riding with Glenn Jepsen, Sabula, whose car struck on driven by Louis Usher, Miles, as both were eastbound. The Usher car, according to Deputy Sheriff Graham Moyer, was attempting a left turn off the highway when the crash occurred. It is believed that Eggers was thrown from the Jepsen auto and pinned underneath as the car overturned. The machine had to be lifted off the body. Jepsen received bruises, while Usher, his wife and baby were not injured. The body of Eggers was taken to the Krabbenhoft funeral home, Preston. The body was taken to the Snell funeral home, Clinton, where friends may call beginning Tuesday evening. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon in Zion Lutheran church there, the hour to be announced later. Rev. Richard Baur, Andover, will officiate. Burial will follow in Andover cemetery. Harlen Henry Eggers was born Aug. 11, 1933, in Andover to Henry and Hannah Andersen Eggers. He attended the Andover schools and had been employed by Clinton Foods, Inc., since last November. He was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran church. He is survived by his parents; three sisters, Lorraine and Ethel, both at home, and Mrs. Robert (Joan) Garson, Elvira; the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Emma Andersen, Route 3,Clinton, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
