James Edward Rumann

BELLEVUE — James Edward Rumann, 87, of Bellevue, died Sunday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

He was born in Clymer, Chautaqua County, N.Y., on Dec. 20, 1918. He married Mary Eleanor “Mary Jane” Bousselot on Sept. 2, 1946.

He and his mother moved to Iowa in 1919. He grew up on a farm near Andrew. He studied at St. Berkman’s Academy, Marion. He graduated from Andrew High School in 1934. He attended Columbia College, now Loras College.

He served with the 793rd Field Artillery Battalion during World War II from 1941 to 1945.

He farmed near DeWitt until retiring in 1981. He and his wife then moved to Bellevue. He then moved to Sunrise Villa Assisted Living, Bellevue.

He was past president of the Welton School Board, Clinton County Conservation Board, Knights of Columbus (grand knight) and American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mary White of Chandler, Ariz., Trudy (John) Heil of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Liz (Mark) Mathis of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and cousins.
