Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Central Presbyterian Church, Des Moines. McLaren’s Funeral Home, West Des Moines, is in charge of arrangements.
SERVICES: 3 p.m. Thursday at the church. A second service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Davenport.
WEST DES MOINES — Donald Gruenwald, 75, of West Des Moines, died Sunday at Methodist Hospital.
Private interment will follow in the National Cemetery, Rock Island, Ill.
He was born in Davenport.
He graduated from Davenport High School in 1948 and from Cornell College, Mount Vernon, in 1952 with a liberal arts degree, majoring in physical education.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He coached and taught in Remsen for one year; Eldora, two years; Guthrie Center, five years; Harlan, 10 years; and Clinton, 17 years.
He was president of the Iowa Basketball Association from 1974 to 1975. He was inducted into the Iowa Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1988 and Cornell College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001.
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Nease and Patricia Wanamaker, both of Chicago, and Sarah Beneke of Coralville; one son, David F. Gruenwald of Lewisville, Texas; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
