Mary L. Benischek

MAQUOKETA — Mary L. Benischek, 75, of Maquoketa, died Saturday at the Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa.

Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery, rural Maquoketa.

She was born Dec. 12, 1930, in rural Lost Nation to John W. Hoffman and Muriel C. Robbins Hoffman. She married in 1950 and later divorced in 1969 before moving to Maquoketa.

She was a 1949 graduate of Lost Nation High School.

She worked as a factory worker at several Maquoketa factories, including Clinton Engines. She then worked with her mother, Muriel Hoffman, at Hoffman Home, Maquoketa, for many years. She had also worked as an in-home-caregiver.

Survivors include her children, Donn Benischek of Maquoketa, Laurie (Mike) Lemmer of Cascade, Georgia (Denny) Fields of Oxford Junction, Robert “Jim Bob” Benischek of Davenport, Christy Appleby (Billy Campbell) of Oxford Junction and Terry (Lori) Benischek of Maquoketa; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A Mary L. Benischek Memorial Fund has been established.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one grandchild and one brother.

Death date: June 24, 2006
