Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa, where a vigil service will be held at 4 p.m.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa, with the Rev. James Chappell and Deacon Bob Head officiating.

MAQUOKETA — Donna M. Merrick, 77, of Maquoketa, died Monday at Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa.

Pallbearers will be Curtis and Chad Witt, Shane and Todd Merrick, Dustin Ernst and Steve Sieverding.

She was born July 19, 1928, in rural Jackson County, near Spragueville, to Harry and Margaret Schmidt Rubel Sr. She married Clifford “Bud” Merrick on Aug. 1, 1946, in Preston. He died in 1980.

She was a homemaker and also worked with Clinton Engines, Maquoketa, 10 years; General Thermo, five years; and was a certified nurse’s aide, five years. She owned and operated The Coffee Pot Cafe in Maquoketa. She also was a cook at several area restaurants and at Jackson County Public Hospital for several years.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Theresa’s Circle and Fraternal Order of Eagles Club, Maquoketa. She also volunteered at the Community Service Store, Maquoketa.

Survivors include two daughters, Pamela (Rush) Davidson of Madison, Ala., and Cindy (Darrell) Ernst of Bellevue; two sons, Clifford (Barb) Merrick and Richard (Linda) Merrick, both of Maquoketa; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry (Eloise) Rubel of Zwingle; and three sisters, Saverna Sieverding of Bellevue and LaVonne (Earl) Stevens and Karen (Dick) Davison, both of Maquoketa.
