Ward Rogers

Visitation: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m Thursday at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll.

SERVICES: 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

MOUNT CARROLL, Ill. — Ward Rogers, 82, of Mount Carroll, died Wednesday at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mount Carroll.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll, with a military flag presentation.

He was born May 8, 1924, in Savanna, Ill., to Charles C. and Lucille Mae Woods Rogers. He married Marilyn Ruth Edwards on May 30, 1945, in Mount Carroll. She died in 1996.

He attended the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts in 1947.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps becoming a second lieutenant during World War II.

He was a professional chef at Old Elm Country Club, Elmhurst, Ill., from 1947 to 1949. He was employed with Clinton Engines, Maquoketa, from 1950 to 1951. He worked as an industrial designer with General Electric, Morrison, from 1951 to 1971. He taught drafting at a college in Racine, Wis., from 1971 to 1974. He and his wife operated the Dairy Bar Restaurant, Mount Carroll, from 1976 to 1986. He then worked 171/2 years with the U.S. Postal Service in Mount Carroll until 1991.

He was a member of St. Ann Episcopal Church, Morrison, Ill. He was president of the Mount Carroll Historic Preservation Committee. He wrote a column, “Remember When.”

Survivors include two daughters, Renee Rogers Jensen of Rockford, Ill., and Toni (Hamid) Razvi of Keller, Texas; one son, Douglas (Cheryl) Rogers of Rockford; seven grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; and one brother, Charles (Jan) Rogers of Joliet, Ill.

Memorials may be given to the Mount Carroll Public Library in his name.
