Emil A. Ketelsen was born May 2, 1909 in Charlotte to the late Thomas and Selma Andresen Ketelsen. He married the former Emma Ploog January 11, 1933 in Charlotte. The couple farmed near Charlotte all their life. Emma preceded him in death on August 15, 1984. Emil was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte. He was a member of the Charlotte School Board and served as president; was a member of the Charlotte Fellowship Club, Charlotte Fire Department, Clinton and Jackson County Dairy Herd Improvement Association, and the Lutheran Laymen's League. Emil also delivered Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed sports and spending time with family.

Surviving are a son, Thomas (MaDonna) of Charlotte; three daughters, Carole Eberhart of Charlotte; Janice (Duane) Eldred of Urbana; Donna (Harlan) Dell of Clinton; three brothers, LaVerne (Dorothy) Ketelsen, DeWitt; Alva (Diane) Ketelsen, Charlotte; Ronald (Betty Jo) Ketelsen, Clinton; two sisters, Esther Ploog and Velma Rickerten, both of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Emil was further preceded in death by a grandson Paul Eldred on July 19, 1996; four brothers and three sisters.
