Donald Duane Jansen

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today at Lahey Funeral Home, Wyoming, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Timothy MIller officiating.

ONSLOW — Donald Duane Jansen, 88, of Onslow, died Tuesday at his home.

Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Kevin Hansen, Paul Eads, Jim Lindsey, Fred Dauber, Randy Briggs, Don Achen, Forrest Briggs, John Snyder, George Wessels, Daryl Wherry, Tom Davis, Gary Jansen, Michael Lathrop, Gene Brunscheen, LaVern “Flute” Weber, Alan Schroeder, J. E. Bickford and Tom Vetter.

He was born Sept. 3, 1917, in Onslow to John and Ina Mae Young Jansen. He married Ruth Lathrop on June 12, 1940, near Onslow.

He graduated from Onslow High School in 1935. He attended Marion Welding School.

He worked with Smith Hybrid Corn Co., both in Onslow and Iowa City. He worked with the U.S. Postal Service, Onslow. He opened a welding shop in Onslow. He then moved to Cedar Rapids and worked with La Plante Choate Heavy Equipment Co. He worked with Linn County Co-op, Marion. He also worked with his grandson, Jason Martensen, tiling with J&D Construction Inc., Lost Nation. He built more than 200 farm ponds in Jones County. He cleaned the land for the development of Jones County Central Park and Little Bear Golf Course.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Onslow; Onslow Men’s Club; Land Improvement Contractors Association; Model Gas Engine Club of Cedar Rapids; 63-year member of Masonic Lodge Ancient Landmark 200, Olin; and Consistory Lodge, Clinton. He also was a member of the Model A Car Club and a charter member of the Little Bear Country Club, Wyoming. He served on the Onslow City Council for 35 years.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jerilyn Husmann and Joan Davis (Don Buchholtz), both of Wyoming; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Daryl (Edna) Jansen of Onslow; one brother-in-law, Forrest Briggs of Redlands, Calif.; and nieces and nephews
