Helma Baker

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today at Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church, Spragueville.

MAQUOKETA — Helma A. Baker, 93, of Maquoketa, died Friday at Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa.

Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery, Spragueville.

She was born Oct. 14, 1912, in Raymond, S.D., to William A. and Alvena Boysen Mehlberg. She married Milo M. Baker Sr. on March 8, 1934, in Dubuque. He died in 2003.

She was educated in Miles and Preston and graduated from Clinton High School in 1931.

She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in Jackson County for many years before retiring to Maquoketa in 1992.

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Spragueville.

Survivors include her children, Joan M. (David) Beeck of Miles, Phyllis A. (David) DeLarm of Delmar, Marvin M. (Judy) Baker of Gilbert, Ariz., William A. (Nancy) Baker of Maquoketa, Milo E. (Laurel) Baker Jr. of Maquoketa and Janice H. (Don) Dawson of Clinton; sisters, Irma Giddings and Eldora Temple, both of Clinton; 26 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

A Helma A. Baker Memorial Fund has been established.
