SERVICES: 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mike Meyer officiating.

SAVANNA, Ill. — Iva M. Hartman, 96, of Savanna, died Tuesday at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna.

She was born Aug. 12, 1909, in Lanark, Ill., to Harry and Lucy Ray Shiley.

She graduated from Lanark High School in 1928. She graduated from St. Anthony’s School of Nursing, Rockford, Ill., in 1931.

She was Carroll County deputy sheriff in 1932. She was a nurse in the obstetrics ward at the Savanna Hospital for 25 years until 1964. She later worked for 10 years at Mercy Medical Center as a surgical nurse before retiring in 1974. She continued her nursing career working as the head night nurse at Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, Ill.

She was a member of Savanna Bible church where she was the church organist and pianist.

Survivors include one son, Allan (Sandra) Hartman of Clinton; one daughter, Mrs. Alice (Paul) Hartman-Nau of Hendersonville, N.C.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the Savanna Bible Church or a charity of the donor’s choice in her name.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, two sisters and one daughter.
