Dorothy Mayer

Dorothy E. Mayer, age 84, formerly of Camanche, Iowa, died on Monday, March 27, 2006 at Country House in Davenport, Iowa.

Services will be held at 4:30 P.M. Thursday, March 30, 2006 at the Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig Funeral Home with Dr. Donald L. Batz of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Camanche officiating. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.

Dorothy was born on July 2, 1921 in Spirit Lake to Clyde and Goldie Willard. On December 9, 1942 she was united in marriage to John “Jack” Mayer in Spirit Lake. He passed away on October 30, 1975. Dorothy graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and received her bachelor of arts degree from Marycrest College in Davenport. She had taught special education in the Spirit Lake and Clinton Schools. Most recently she had taught 5th grade English in the Camanche School System retiring in 1985. Dorothy was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Camanche Library Board and was also involved with the local caring tree.

Survivors include: one daughter: Marsha (Rob) Holleran of Aurora, CO, one son: John (Barbara) Mayer of Clinton, IA, two sisters: Doris Norman and Darlene Lennox, five grandchildren; Halie Mayer of Clinton, Heather Mayer of Davenport, Abby Hosette of Ft. Richardson, AK, and Tate and Lauren Holleran of Aurora, Colorado

She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband and one son.
