VISITATION: 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus. The Rev. Sarah Kretzman will be officiating.

CALAMUS — Lavern H. Schroeder, 86, of Calamus, died Monday at Wheatland Manor.

Interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Wheatland.

Pallbearers will be Bill Barrow, Wes Griesbach, John Matthews, Mike Hughes, Joe Barrow, Scot King, Johnny Matthews, Michael Hughes and Ted Statchar.

He was born Aug. 8, 1919, near Toronto to William and Amanda Young Schroeder. He married Alice Willey on June 2, 1945, in Roswell, N.M.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during World World II.

He and his wife farmed in rural Calamus.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus, Calamus American Legion and Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Mrs. Lavon (Bill) Barrow of Marion, Mrs. Ladon (Wes) Griesbach of Lowden, Mrs. Lynn (John) Matthews of Moor Park, Calif., and Lana Goettsch of Calamus; one son-in-law, Mike Hughes of Grand Mound; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Kenneth (Barb) Schroeder of Phoenix.

A memorial fund has been established.
