ANDREW RIETZ DIES; SERVICES SET THURSDAY

Jan. 23, 1939

Former Employee of F.C.A. Denkmann Family for Half Century Succumbs at 80.

Andrew F. C. Rietz, 80, who formerly was employed by the F.C.A. Denkmann family in Rock Island as coachman, chauffeur, and general handy man more than fifty years, died at 1:45 o'clock this morning in the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Oertel, 1424 Thirty fifth street, where he resided. Death followed a short illness.

Mr. RIETZ, last worked at a chauffeur for Mr. and Mrs. John H. Hauberg. he retired eight years ago, at the age of 72.

Mr. RIETZ was a charter member of the Evangelical Church of Peace.

He was born in a village near Wollendorf, Germany, May 27, 1859, and came to the United States with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl F. C. RIETZ, in 1872. The family settled near Grand Mound, Iowa. As a young man, Andrew RIETZ came to Rock Island. He was employed for a short time at the Weyerhaeuser and Denkmann Lumber company and then obtained employment with the F.C.A. Denkmann family. He married Miss Anne RISTAU in Rock Island, May 8, 1895. She died in 1910.

Surviving are a twin brother, Ernest, of Burlington, Iowa; a sister, Mrs. Wilhelmina HAHN of Dewitt, Iowa; a daughter, Mrs. Leona LONG of Rock Island; a son, Raymond C. RIETZ of Madison, Wis., and seven grandchildren.

A son, Ernest D. RIETZ of Rock Island, died Oct. 5, 1938, and two sisters and a brother also preceded him in death.

The body ws taken to the Knox mortuary, where funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon. the Rev. Frederick J. Rolf, pastor of Evangelical Church of Peace, will officiate, and burial will be in Chippiannock cemetery.
