Mrs. Ernest RUETZ, 78, a resident of the city 45 years, died at 8:30 o'clock last night in her home, 1020 Sixteenth avenue, Rock Island, following an illness of 10 weeks.

Mrs. RUETZ, whose maiden name was Miss Caroline SCHUMACHER, was born Aug. 27, 1857, in Holstein, Germany, and received her early education there. As a young girl, she moved to America with her parents, the family settling on a farm near Grand Mound, Iowa.

She was married Feb. 7, 1884, in Grand Mound to Ernest RUETZ, and seven years later the couple moved to Rock Island to reside. Mrs. RUETZ was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church, and its ladies' aid society.

Surviving are the widower, and a niece, Mrs. John CARSTENSEN, of Rock Island. An adopted daughter, Henrietta RUETZ, preceded her in death.

The body was removed to the Knox mortuary where funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. The Rev. H. F. C. Wetzel, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran church, will officiate. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery.
