Cora McGinnis

Cora Belle McGinnis, 78, of Thomson, Ill., died Thursday at her daughter’s home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at York Community Congregational Church, Thomson, with Pastor Ron Abbott officiating. Burial will be at Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson.

She was born July 7, 1927, to William and Edith McDonald Hamm in Garden Plain, Ill. She married Paul K. “Jake” McGinnis on Oct. 30, 1943, at First United Methodist Church, Savanna, Ill. He died in 1997.

She attended Morrison, Ill., schools.

In addition to being a homemaker, she and her husband owned and operated McGinnis Market in Thomson for more than 60 years.

Survivors include two sons, Larry “Bim” (Debbie) and Randy (Cindy) McGinnis, both of Thomson; three daughters, Jane Ann (Don) Groharing of Kansas City, Mo., Donna French of Thomson and Cindy (Bill) Schleuing of Hanover, Ill.; 23 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and one great–great grandchild; three brothers, Melvin Hamm and Carl Hamm of Thomson and Doug Hamm of Savanna; and four sisters, Clara Bauer of Savanna, Betty (Del) Dellinger of Eagle Rock, Mo., Shirley Reiland of Clinton and Paulette (Lloyd) Hamilton of Savanna.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, four brothers, two sisters, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
