Jean E. Gradert

Jean Gradert, 78 of Clinton, died Thursday at Mercy North Hospital in Clinton.

Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be at Center Grove Cemetery near Bryant.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brad and Jeff Lauritzen, Matthew, Scott, Timothy and Michael Snyder, and Drew and Brennan DeJong.

She was born July 4, 1927, in Miles to Ralph and Minna Andersen Watts. She married John L. Gradert on Jan. 19, 1947, in Clinton; he died in 1990.

She and her husband owned and operated Naeve Hybrid Seed Corn in Bryant for many years.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was very active with the Donut Ladies. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, very active with the Daughters of the Nile and was past mother advisor for the Rainbow Girls.

Jean is survived by her four daughters, Mrs. Patti (Jim) Lauritzen of Bryant, Marsha Snyder of Omaha, Mrs. Deb (Gary) Vath of Clinton and Mrs. Joy (Mark) DeJong of Ankeny; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Muriel Goos of Sabula and Mrs. Ruth (Lyle) Spurlin of Marshalltown.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church or the Habitat for Humanity of Clinton County.
