MAQUOKETA — June A. Nicholson, 81, of Maquoketa and formerly of Delmar and Rockford, Ill., died Monday at the Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue.

There will be a celebration of her life at 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa, with the Rev. James Chappell and Deacon Robert Head officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa, where a 6:45 p.m. rosary service will be held. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa.

She was born May 31, 1924, in Rockford, Ill., to Jack and LaVerne Baney Rose. She married Alvin Nicholson on March 1, 1968, in Rockford.

She attended Clinton High School. She received a cosmetology degree from Capri College, Rockford.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic and its St. Rita’s Circle. She also was a member of the Eagles Club in Maquoketa and served as a hostess for the Welcome Wagon in Maquoketa for more than five years.

She worked as a self-employed beautician and owned and operated June’s Hair Salon, Rockford, for many years until moving to Maquoketa in 1978. In 1990, she and her husband moved to Delmar and in 2001 back to Maquoketa.

Survivors include her husband; children, Barbara Camillo of Rockford, Frank Pouder of Fort Meyers, Fla., Debra Ekard of Maquoketa, Alan (Jamie) Nicholson of Odessa, Texas, Mrs. Michele (Lenny) Forsell of Rockford and Dennis (Wendy) Gregory of Rockford and Mrs. Melody (Ken) Aube of Beloit, Wis.; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A June A. Nicholson Memorial Fund has been established.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father and stepfather.
