DEWITT — Raymond G. “Jim” Griebel, 86, of DeWitt, died Sunday at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. There will be a vigil service at 8 p.m. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. H. Robert Harness will be officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Joy Cemetery. Eugene American Legion Post 238, DeWitt, will conduct military rites.

Pallbearers will be James Griebel Jr., Lee Griebel, Kris, Jeremy and Brandon Duffey, Micah and Caleb Gustafson, Ed Fowlkes, Harry “Bino” Garrity and LaVerne Stevens.

He was born Jan. 20, 1920, to Otto and Mary Lineburg Griebel in Gambril. He married Mary Lois Connole on Aug. 19, 1942, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. She died in 1978. He then married Evelyn Wynkoop Geronzin on April 6, 1984, in Las Vegas.

He served in the U.S. Army Tank Division during World War II.

He was an operating engineer with Local 150 for many years before retiring in 1982.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Eugene McManus American Legion Post 238, both in DeWitt, Disabled American Veterans and Operating Engineers Local 150. He was a former member of Loyal Order of the Moose and AARP.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; daughters, Deborah Griebel of Walcott, Mrs. Stephanie (Dean) Gustafson of Camanche and Karin Duffey of DeWitt; one son, Robert Griebel of Davenport; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, one son, parents, two grandchildren, one daughter-in-law, seven sisters and two brothers.
