Last Will and Testament of Joseph Geganff

I Joseph Geganff of the City of Clinton, Clinton County Iowa being of sound and disposing mind and memory but in feeble bodily health do hereby make publish and declare this my last will and testament.

First: It is my desire that all my just debts be paid.

Second: I give devise and bequeath One Hundred dollars to be paid by my executor hereinafter named in his best discretion for Masses for the repose of my soul.

Third: I give devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Catharine one third of all the rest, residue and remainder of all my property both real and personal absolutely.

Fourth: I give devise and bequeath to J. A. Schulte in trust however for the following uses and purposes two hundred ($200) dollars to be paid to the St Mary’s Church (Catholic) Clinton Iowa. One hundred ($100) dollars to be paid the Catholic Orphan Asylum of Dubuque Iowa conducted under the auspices of the Sisters of St. Francis.
Note: between the lines is written: St. Boniface School of Lyons One Hundred dollars (goes into the margin) to be paid to

Fifth: I give devise and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my property of every kind, character and description to the use of my beloved wife Catherine herein before named during her natural life with the remainder ever ater her death to my nephew Gustave Geganff.

Sixth: All provisions herein made for my wife Catharine is expressly declared to be in lieu of any and all dower or other interest in my estate.

Seventh: I hereby constitute and appoint J. A. Schulte of Lyons, Iowa the sole executor of this my last will and testament and hereby expressly exempt him from giving any bond as such executor.

The above and foregoing was by Joseph Geganff the testator signed in our presence and declared by him to be his last will and testament and we have hereunto set our hands as witnesses to said will at his request in the presence of said testator and in the presence of each other.

I William Kreim, clerk of the District Court in and for said County do hereby certify that on this day at the April Term A. D. 1889 of said Court the will and instrument in writing hereunto annexed and bearing date in the 1st day of Apri 1889 was duly proved before and allowed by said court as and for the last will and testament of the real and personal estate of Joseph Geganff late of said County deceased and was by said Court ordered to be recorded as such will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of the court at my office in Clinton in said County this 1st day of May A. D. 1889.
