The Clinton Age, Clinton, Iowa, January 21, 1876

Letters have been received at Lyons from J. K. P. Balch, the boot and shoe man who lately failed in that city, and has gone to South America to escape his creditors. The letters were dated at the Bahama Islands where Balch, who had embarked at Savannah, intercepted an ocean steamer bound for Buenos Ayres.
