Hi Courtney,
I have a George Hill in my family tree. He was born in 1882 and died in 1954. His father was Henry Hill (1856-1892). I looked at the address you gave for the house you bought and it is not one I remember visiting. I know that we visited him & his wife, Martha Fiedler Hill in the 1940-50s and their house was a white house and it was west of the main street. However, he might have build your brick house as he is listed as a mason in the 1910-1930 census. You should be able to research the records at the court house in Elkader. Who knows, maybe the names were of the builders who built the house. Let me know what your find out.
