If the marriage was recorded, you should be able to get a copy from the Clayton co. courthouse. In Iowa, marriage records (except 1921-1941) are found in the county where the marriage occurred.

Newspapers in the 1860's did have brief marriage announcements - for the Grand Meadow area, such an announcement would most likely have been published in the McGregor newspaper. Those papers have been microfilmed and available at the McGregor Public Library. I believe they also have an obit index file, and may have one for marriages as well.
