Hi Judy in CA,
My great grandmother was Sophia Wendt born abt 1848-49 in Mecklenburg Schwerin Germany. I have not found her parents in the Germany records. She came to the Clayton Co. Iowa and married Johann Jurgen "Frederich" Thies in 1872. After having 4 children she died in 1881. I have traced Frederich to Loissow, Mecklenburg Schwerin. Three of Sophia's siblings also came to the US (I believe at different times). They are Frederick "Fritz" Wendt who married Frederich's sister, Elizabeth Thies, Wilhelmine Went who married Carl Baars and Johann "Diedrich" who married Mary Betlege. They all settled in Clayton Co.
