Mrs. Catherine Stoecker Died In This City, Saturday, Jan. 14

After a lingering illness lasting over a period of several months, Mrs. Catherine Stoecker died at her home on First street Saturday morning. The esteemed lady had been a sufferer from lung trouble, from the affliction of which she grew weaker and weaker until the final summons came to her relief.
OBITUARY

Catherine Mettler was born at Reutigen, Switzerland, Feb. 13, 1846. She came to America in 1851 with her parents. She was united in marriage to J. George Stoecker at Chicago[,] Ill., in 1865. She came to Clayton county in 1877 and resided on a farm west of town. Her age at time of death was 64 years, 11 months and 1 day. Left to mourn her loss are three sons and five daughters; Mrs. Rose Greenwald of Marcus, Ia., Mrs. Herman Bachhaus [Backhaus] and Mrs. T. J. Miller [G. J. Mueller] of Manly, Ia[.,] Miss Kate Stoecker of this city; Mrs. Albert Norby of Hayes, S. D., George of Remsen, Ia.; Albert and Fred of Guttenberg. Also two sisters, Mrs. L. L. Von Berg of Charles City and Mrs. Kephart of Lakefield, Minn., all of whom were present at the funeral. Others from abroad were Mrs. Wagner of Postville and Mrs. Ross Richardson of Elkader.

The funeral occurred Tuesday[,] Jan. 17, at 11 a. m. with services at St. John’s Lutheran church. Interment was made in City cemetery.

Catherine Mettler was born in Reutingen, Switzerland, February 13, 1846, and came to America with her parents in 1851. July 19, 1865 she was married to George Stoecker in Chicago, and with her husband came to Clayton county in 1873 and resided on a farm at Ceres. Soon after the death of her husband Jan. 24, 1910 she moved to Guttenberg. Her departure is mourned by her eight childred [sic], George of Remsen; Albert, Fred and Katy, at home; Mrs. Rose Gruenewaldt, of Marcus; Mrs. Herman Backhous [Backhaus] and Mrs. T. J. Miller [G. J. Mueller], of Manley [sic]; and Mrs. Albert Norby, of Hayes, S. D.; besides her sisters Mrs. L. L. VonBerg, of Charles City, and Mrs. Kephart of Lakefield, Minn.; all of whom were present at the funeral. Those present from abroad were Mrs. Ross Richardson, of Elkader, and Mrs. Wagner of Bostville [sic].

The funeral took place Tuesday, with services in St. John’s Lutheran church at 11:30 a. m., by Rev. J. Janzig, and sermon at the grave by Rev. Bosholm of Garnavillo. Interment was made in the City cemetery.
