Guy Meskimen was born Aug. 6, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Charles and Bertha (Nagel) Meskimen. He passed away Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at his home in Guttenberg.

Guy grew up in the Cedar Rapids area where he attended and graduated from Wilson High School in 1950. After school, Guy served his country proudly in the Korean War in the United States Marines where he earned a Purple Heart and later an honorable discharge. After his time in service, Guy worked as a truck driver for several years. On Dec. 7, 1985, Guy married Dian Nelson in Guttenberg. Together they made a home in Guttenberg while Guy enjoyed hunting and target shooting, fishing and "BS'ing". He was a member of the American Legion and the Guttenberg Eagles Club.

Guy will (be) forever loved by his wife, Dian; children, Deena (Steve) Bernhardt of Iowa City, Scott Meskimen and Tami Kluth, both of Cedar Rapids, Deb (Mark) Czarnecki of Beaver Dam, Wis., Rebecca Nelson of Lakeville, Minn. and Gordon (Cindy) Nelson Jr. of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; six grandchildren, Chad Clinton, Neal Clinton, Abby Boer, Austin Kluth, Taylor Nelson and Sabrina Nelson; one brother, Roger Meskimen; and many other relatives and friends.

Guy was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Steve Meskimen and Scott Nelson; and grandson Michael Clinton.

Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 207 S. First, Guttenberg, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, and one hour before service Thursday at the church. Memorial service will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Shane Anderson officiating. Inurnment will be at the Guttenberg City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers and all styles of sympathy, Guy has requested that memorials be sent to the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
