Mrs. Julia Ernest returned from Willoughby, Ohio, Friday A.M. with the remains of her father W.S. Scott.

He was sick but five weeks, fatty heart caused his death. Mr. Scott was seventy years old, about fifty years of his life was spent in Clayton County.

He was engaged extensively in farming interest, as a good business manager, he was a success. He was a prominent, active member of the Methodist Church, where he will be greatly missed.

An influential man has gone to his reward. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of many sorrowing friends.

The remains of W.S. Scott, who died at Willoughby, Ohio, on the 3d, were brought to Luana last Friday for burial. He was born in Grand Isle county, Vt., Oct. 24, 1824, and was a little over 70 years old at the time of his death.

He was among the early settlers of the county and was the founder of Luana, and one of our most highly respected citizens.

Mrs. Scott died in 1893, and he had lived the past two years with his daughter, Mrs. Dr. T.M. Moore, of Willoughby, Ohio.

Death of a Soldier.
Luana, Iowa, April, 5.—One of the pioneers of Clayton county passes over to the other shore. Wm. S. Scott, of Luana, died Wednesday in Willeby, Ohio, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Dr. Moore, where he was spending the winter. He has been ailing and failing in health since his wife died about a year ago. The remains will be brought home for burial. Mr. Scott came to Iowa in 1846 and settled in Clayton county. During the Mexican war he enlisted and served at Fort At­kinson as well as along the then fron­tier against the Indians. Mr. Scott was a warm friend of the soldier boys of ’64-5. He was a member of the M. E. church, where he enjoyed the confidence and esteem of all. He died with the armor on and has gone to his reward.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Oct. 24, 1824 and is buried in the Luana Cemetery.
