Elkader-- Last rites were conducted this morning (Monday) at St. Joseph's Catholic Hospital (Church) for Sylvester Curran, 71, who died at the Iowa Soldier's Home in Marshalltown Friday.

Mr. Curran, who was born at Elkport, was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion 48 years. He was a guard at the penitentiary at Fort Madison a number of years.

He is survived by one brother, Francis, Green Island; three sisters, Mrs. Fred Fink of Oelwein, Mrs. George Dixon of Cedar Rapids and Viola Curran of Chicago.
