Gerald John Hefel went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday May 9, 2007.
Gerald was born Feb. 15, 1931 in North Buena Vista, Iowa - Son of Tom and Florence (Errthum) Hefel.
He married Marjorie Moser on October 27, 1955 in Guttenberg, Iowa.
Gerald served in the US Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Wiltsie and the USS Cushing. He received the Korean Service Medal with 3 Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, China Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
Gerald and Marge farmed near North Buena Vista and owned and operated Gerry's Barber Shop for the past 47 years, and for the last 5 years he co-operated with his daughter at the Dad and Daughter Barber and Beauty Shop.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Buena Vista, Iowa and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Gerald was a member of the UFCW Local and the American Legion Dyersville Post #137.
Gerald took delight in being the provider for his family through his farming and hard work. He enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada, but he most loved spending time with his family and friends and discussing politics.

Friends may call from 2:00 until 7:00 on Friday at Behr's 1491 Main Street, Dubuque, and after 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church Hall in North Buena Vista, Iowa.The Dyersville American Legion Post #137 services will be on Friday at Behr's at 6:30 p.m.Funeral Service
