Postville Review, Fri., 17 Feb. 1905.

Sarah M. Batchelder was born March 31, 1828, at Wellingford, Vt., and died at Hardin, Iowa, Feb. 6, 1905, aged 76 years, 10 months and 5 days.

In the year 1856 she was married to Frank Spaulding and with him came the same year to Iowa and settled near McGregor. Fourteen years later her husband died, leaving one son and his widowed wife to mourn.

In 1874 she was again married to B. S. Batchelder an old friend of herself and deceased husband, and for 31 years they have floated down life's river in sweet accord. She leaves one son by her first husband, John M. Spaulding, of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; her husband and Susie to mourn the loss of one of the best wives and mothers. Sister Batchelder began her christian life when but a child. At the age of 14 she gave her heart to God and her hand to the church. She lived a pure christian life for more than 60 years. Eleven years ago they came to Hardin. During that time she has been a large part of the sociial and church life of this little village. She will be missed as few others would have been. To know her was to love her. Her health was poor for years but her last sickness terminated her days of suffering.

Note: Sarah, B. S. and Susie Batchelder are shown as buried in Council Hill cemetery.
