WEGNER

Postville Review, Fri., 6 Jan. 1905.

This community was shocked on Wednesday morning about 10 o'clock, when the word was passed hastily about town that Charles Wegner had just dropped dead at the Milwaukee stockyards in this city, and many were prone to believe it, as but a few minutes before Mr. Wegner had gone up the main street driving a bunch of cattle he had sold to Mr. Roberts. Investigation proved the rumor was alas, too true. It seems he had driven the cattle to the stockyards, where Fred Meyer met him and weighed the stock, and after they were turned into a pen, the two stood looking at the cattle and talking, when of a sudden Mr. Wegner stopped short in the middle of a sentence, fell over backward, gasped once or twice and was dead, death doubtless being due to heart failure, though deceased had never been sick a day in his life.

Charles Wegner was one of the oldest and most respected of Clayton county farmers, residing a mile and a half southwest of Postville in Grand Meadow township. He was 57 years of age. He is survived by his wife, five daughters and a son, and two sisters, all of whom have the sympathy of a host of friends in their sad and sudden bereavement.

The funeral will be held from the Lutheran church in this city tomorrow (Saturday) at 1 o'clock.
