JOHN HENRY MANGELS
John Henry Mangels, 58, of the Forest Mills vicinity, died suddenly Sunday evening, January 12, 1958 at 5:30 o'clock at the Postville Community Hospital as a result of a stroke he was stricken with two hours earlier at his home.Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:45 p.m. from the Schultz Funeral Home at Monona and at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, Monona, at 2:00 with the Rev. R. C. Schlueter officiating. Burial was in the Lutheran cemetery at Monona.
John Mangels was born a son of Johannes Otto Mangels and Alvina, nee Harns, in Muensterdorf, Germany, November 9, 1899. He was a veteran of World War I.
September 16, 1923 he was married to Paula John in Hoerniekircher of Germany. In October of the same year they came to America.
Mr. Mangels worked for William Kaiser near National for four years then farmed on the Seward Henkes farm for five years. Since January 1932, Mr. and Mrs. Mangels farmed for themselves northeast of Postville in the Forest Mills vicinity.
He was preceded in death by his father who died May 11, 1957. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Vernis (Irene) Engelhardt; his mother, Alvina Mangels of Glindesmoor, Germany; two sisters, Mrs. Theodore (Alma) Hets of Clayton and Mrs. William (Irene) Stueben of Hamburg, Germany; and one grandson, Dean Allan Engelhardt.
