Death Of Emil Flentje
On Monday morning, June 25, 1917, at 8 o'clock at the Mercy hospital at Dubuque occurred the death of Emil Flentje, at the age of 17 years, 4 months
and 13 days.On last Friday while bathing at Dubuque he had the misfortune to break his back when making a high dive into shallow water. He was at once taken to the Mercy hospital for treatment, and all was done that could be done to ward off death; but all failed.
Deceased was a son of Mrs. Christ Becker, of this
city, and was born at Guttenberg, Iowa, February 12, 1900, and lived here until a short time ago, when he went to Dubuque, where he had employment at the Carr, Ryder & Adams Co. Mill. He was a kind and true son, brother and friend, and his untimely death is deeply mourned by his mother and stepfather, Mrs. and Mr. Christ Becker, of this city, two brothers, Henry, of Fairmont, Minn., and Elmer, of Dubuque, two sisters, Mrs. Michael Yambura, and Mrs. Fred Bluecher, both of Dubuque and a large number of other relatives and friends by whom he will be sadly missed.The body was brought from Dubuque to the Christ Becker home in this city Tuesday afternoon, and
funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church here Wednesday afternoon. Rev. J. Janzig conducted funeral services. Internment was made in the City Cemetery.All his brothers and sisters and their families were here to attend the funeral. Deceased was an ambitious and trustworthy young man in every respect, and his tragic death is a severe blow to his relatives and friends.
