Elkader - Fred Amsden, Garber, died yesterday afternoon just outside of Garber as he was driving a load of livestock for Dubuque. He suffered a heart attack, but managed to pull up to the side of the road. He was 61.
Funeral services will be held Monday, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's Evangelical church in Garber. Burial will be at Mount Harmony cemetery.
His body is now at the Oelke funeral home here, but will be moved to his family residence Sunday.
He is survived by his wife and five children, Mrs. Bernice Walters, of Colesburg; Mrs. Delores Lange, of Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Helene Rutledge of Elkport; Mrs. Eunice Horstman of Holy Cross, and Clark Amsden of Garber.
He is also survived by three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services for Frederick Amsden, 61, Garber, were held Feb. 14 at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church, Garber, with the Rev. Walter Vonderohe officiating. Burial was in Mt. Harmony cemetery.
Mr. Amsden died Feb. 11 of a heart attack. He had been in poor health for four years.
He was born Nov. 27, 1887, in Jefferson township, the son of Whitney and Louise Amsden, and spent the greater part of his life in and around Garber. He was married Jan. 3, 1912, to Hildegard Hagen, at Elkport. He was a director of the Advent school for ten years and a member of St. John's church council.
Both his parents preceded him in death, his father in 1937 and his mother in 1946.
Surviving are his wife, five children, 14 grandchildren, two sisters and four brothers. The children are: Berneice, Mrs. Theodore Walters, Colesburg: Delores, Mrs. Arnold Lange, Grosse Point Park, Mich.; Helene, Mrs. Merlin Rutledge, Elkport; Eunice, Mrs. Harold Horstman, Holy Cross; and Clark Amsden, Garber. Surviving sisters and brothers are: Mrs. Mary Winkstern, Arlington; Mrs. Ervin Schaal, Manchester; Peter Amsden, Elkport; William Amsden, Dubuque; Ben Amsden, Greeley; and Edward Amsden, Garber.
Pallbearers were Frank Smith, George Webber, Ed Lundt, Arthur Jennings, Ed Feidt and Arthur Willman.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Eldo Hagen, Rock Falls, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Kickbush, Burt; Mrs. Felix Schmal, Spirit Lake; Mrs. Etta Rhodas, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Schaal, Manchester; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bissell and Calvin and Mrs. Mary Winkstern, Arlington; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Noack and Mr. and Mrs. Gust Troester, Guttenberg; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Fascher and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lundt, St. Olaf; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Amsden and family, Greeley.
