Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)A prayer service for William "Bill" Francis Bacon, age 72, of Waukon, Iowa, formerly of Elgin, Iowa, was held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5 at Leonard Funeral Home in Monona, Iowa with Rev. Helen Kuhens conducting the service.
William Francis Bacon, son of Lloyd and Harriet (Schroeder) Bacon, was born January 26, 1931 in rural Monona, Iowa. He attended school through the 8th grade. He became a United States Marine on September 12, 1951, serving in Korea and was honorably discharged on September 11, 1953. He was united in marriage to Minerva Thorson at the East Clermont Lutheran Church in rural Clermont in 1955. Bill drove truck for a time and farmed near Elgin. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching wildlife.
William Francis Bacon died Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at the Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa following a brief illness. He had resided in the Postville Nursing Home for a short time before moving to Northgate Care Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Minerva in 1975, and a brother Allan "Bud" Bacon.
William is survived by his siblings, Donald "Pete" (Jean) Bacon of Monona, Iowa, Shirley (Jim) Drake of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Richard Bacon of Luana, Iowa and Ralph (Linda) Bacon of Postville, Iowa, a sister-in-law, Beverly Bacon of Postville, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews.
