Funeral services for Joseph J. Klima, age 76, of Monona, Iowa were held Thursday morning, January 15, at 10:30 o'clock at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Rev. Donald Heineman officiating. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery with military rites conducted at the grave by the Leslie H. Smith Post No. 519 of the American Legion. Pallbearers were Fred Hass, Robert Mork, John Havelicek, Harlan Hass, Arlo Johanningmeier, Leslie Kadlec, Robert Geraghty, and Enoch Anderson.

Joseph J. Klima, son of Joseph and Mary (Kadlec) Klima, was born March 2, 1893 in Giard Township in Clayton County, Iowa. He received his education in the Bloody Run and Pleasant Ridge schools in his home community and Milwaukee, Wisconsin schools. He also attended a business school in Milwaukee. In 1900, he moved with his parents to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and lived there until 1907, at which time they purchased the Kinsley farm on Pleasant Ridge. He has lived on this farm until his death, with the only exception being the time spent in the service during World War I. Joseph was married to Minnie Topel on May 25, 1921 in the Pilgrim Evangelical parsonage at Monona, Iowa with Rev. O.H. Hilman officiating. In March of 1964 Mr. Klima had just completed nine years as a field assessor in Giard Township when he was afflicted with an occlusion of the left leg. It was necessary to amputate the leg and thus was confined to a wheel chair. In 1966, he suffered the same distress in the right leg and it was necessary to amputate this leg also. In spite of this handicap, he enjoyed television, the mail, and the visits with those who stopped by his home.

Joseph J. Klima died Monday evening, January 12, 1970 at the Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Anna Klima, and three brothers, Frank Klima, Benjamin Klima, and Jacob Klima.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Minnie; a son Milton (Gloria) Klima, 2 granddaughters, Candice Klima and Cathy Klima; and 1 brother, Eugene Klima of Montello, Wisconsin.
