Contributor: Connie Ellis (Olson Family Researcher)Funeral services for Edward "Eddie" William Bernhardt were held Monday, July 27, 1992 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Monona, Iowa. Officiating was Father John Moran. Pallbearers were Lloyd Russell, Wallace Thein, Fred Heins, Myron Ihde, Carlyle Kirkeberg, Dave Holroyd, and Leo Steiert. Military services were conducted by the American Legion Post 519 of Monona, Iowa. Burial was in the St. Patrick's Church Cemetery. Schultz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Edward William Bernhardt, son of William and Mathilda (Neubauer) Bernhardt was born December 11, 1904 at Monona, Iowa. He graduated from the Monona High School in 1922 and attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Edward was a member of the American Legion Post 519 of Monona, Iowa. He served in the Army during World War II. For 30 years he worked as a postal mail carrier for the United States Post Office. On December 16, 1983 Edward was united in marriage to Julia Amelia (Olson) Roe.
Edward died Friday, July 24, 1992 at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, having reached the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 13 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Pemm Bernhardt, and Michael Berhardt and 2 sisters, Ruth Bernhardt and Grace Bernhardt.
Survivors include his wife, Julia; 4 step-sons, Ronald (Roberta) Roe of Lidderdale, Iowa, Allan Roe, Marvin (Janet) Roe, and Curtis (Cheryl) Roe, all of Waukon, Iowa; 13 grandchildren: Jackie (Mark) Fober, Brian Roe, Frannie Roe, Russ Roe, Deanna Roe, Shannon (Curtin) Baker, Rachel Curtin, Josh Roe, Sally Roe, Haley Roe, Shawn Roe, Shayne Roe, and Brienne Roe, in addition to many relatives and friends.
