Memorial services were held Sunday August 21, 1988 for Mrs. Louisa Caroline (Thiese) Schlake at Prescott Valley, Arizona. She died on Tuesday, August 16, 1988, after an extended illness, at the age of 87. Interment was at the family plot at the Garnavillo cemetery, Garnavillo, Iowa.

She was born July 28, 1901 in rural Guttenberg, Iowa, the daughter of Ferdinand and Wilhelmina (Wesemann) Thiese. She received her education in the rural schools of Clayton County, Iowa. On July 24, 1920 she married LeRoy Schlake of Garnavillo, Iowa. They farmed north of Garnavillo for a number of years, then moved to a farm south of Waukon, Iowa where they lived until retirement. They later lived in Waukon, Farmersburg, Iowa, Garnavillo and many years were spent at Phoenix, Arizona.

Her husband LeRoy Schlake died November 5, 1972. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Arlene; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Marvin (Alma) Holtz and two brothers, Alfred Thiese and Emil Thiese.

She is survived by two sons in Arizona, Ivan Schlake of Prescott Valley and Merle Schlake of Phoenix; two daughters, Mrs. Ivanelle Lochard of Prescott Valley and Mrs. Robert (Carol) Hanson of Prescott. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and two brothers, Ernst Thiese of Farmersburg, Iowa and Ferdy Thiese of Garnavillo, Iowa.
