Funeral services for Maude M. Spores, 82, lifetime resident of Allamakee County were held Friday afternoon May 7, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Lansing. Rev. R. Matthias officiated. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs Spores passed away Wednesday, May 5th at Finley hospital, Dubuque. She made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Merlin Sheriff at Dubuque the past several months and had been ill for about three weeks.
Mrs Spores was born May 2, 1883 at Littleport, IA in Clayton County, a daughter of Edward and Marjorie Portwine. She was married November 9, 1909 to John W. Spores at Cassville. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Anton (Lenore) Nierling, Waukon; Mrs. Merlin (Dorothy) Sheriff, Dubuque; Mrs. Donald (Lila) Sutter, Denver, Colo.; Mrs Floyd (Marcella) Barth, New Albin, and two sons, Alfred of Dubuque and Carl, whereabouts unknown. Twenty-seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and one sister.
Pallbearers were Odean Sandry, Lawrence Strong, Tade Olloff, Ray Bolsinger, Abbie Protsman and Ray Sweeney.
