Rites for John Moyna At Elkader Wednesday
Elkader — John "Jack" Moyna, 65, died Sunday at his home here after a lingering illness. Mr. Moyna, a lifetime resident, of this community, was Clayton county road construction foreman for 20 years. Four years ago, he and his two sons Ed and Cecil formed a construction company and engaged in soil conservation work. Mr. Moyna retired six months ago because of ill health. In addition to his wife (Jessie Alderson) and two sons, he is survived by a daughter Mrs. James Stewart. Services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.* (sic) The body is at the Witt Funeral Home.

Dies Sunday at Elkader Home after Lingering Illness; Was Earth Moving Contractor

Funeral services were held here Wednesday morning for John M. Moyna, 65, who died at his Elkader home Sunday, Dec. 12, following a lingering illness. Services were conducted from the Witt funeral home at 9 o'clock to St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 9:30.

Interment was made in the Sacred Heart cemetery in Cox Creek township with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. D. A. Gorman officiating.

Moyna was born on a farm in Cox Creek Township, south of Elkader, on April 7, 1889 and was a son of Patrick and Katherine Lane Moyna.

He was married to Elsie E. Alderson of Elkader on Oct. 27, 1908. She died on May 6, 1923. To this union two sons were born, Cecil and Edward.

On Oct. 29, 1924 he was married to Jessie B. Alderson. To them a daughter was born, Evelyn.

He was preceded in in death by his first wife (and their daughter Mae) and his parents.
Mr. Moyna was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the M.W.A. and Holy Name Society.

For many years Moyna was engaged in the earth moving business. He served as foreman for numerous road-building crews throughout Iowa. For a number of years he also served as construction foreman for the Clayton county highway department.

In recent years he and his sons Cecil and Edward had been engaged as contractors in soil conservation work using their earth moving equipment in leveling ditches and building terraces and dikes on farms throughout central Clayton County.

During the WPA days, in the middle 1930s, Moyna was director of the Clayton County labor force (which included hiring workers for Lock and Dam #10 at Guttenberg).

Survivors are his wife, two sons Cecil and Edward, one daughter Mrs. James Stewart (Evelyn) and 7 grandchildren all of Elkader. (Patricia, John A., Gerald, and Michael Moyna; Daniel, David, and Jane Stewart).
