Herbert Harry Way, 80, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Elkader, died Friday evening, March 12, 2010, at Living Center West in Cedar Rapids.

Herbert Harry Way was born March 14, 1929, in Strawberry Point to Glen and Laura (McLean) Way.

He attended school in Strawberry Point, after which he worked on the farm with his brothers. He entered the U.S. Army in June of 1951, and was honorably discharged in May of 1953, serving during the Korean Conflict. Herbert moved to Elkader where he remained until entering the Living Center. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with animals. He also worked at the Elkader Senior Dining Center for nine years.

Survivors include his siblings, Irma Wilcox of Salem, OR, Mildred (Vernon) Schmock of Strawberry Point, Clair (Lois) Way of Cedar Rapids and Cal Way of Volga; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Nettie Way in infancy, Luella Gilbert and June Thompson and brothers, Don, Dale and Doyle Way.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., March 16, 2010 at the Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader, Iowa with burial in the Cass Township Cemetery at Strawberry Point, Iowa.
