Joseph P. Pedretti passed away at the Guttenberg Care Center Saturday, March 13, 2010.

Joseph P. Pedretti, 78, of Elkader, was born August 24, 1931, in Genoa, WI to William and Agnes (Venner) Pedretti. He was raised on a dairy farm and attended country school. Joe moved to Prairie du Chein, WI to work with his brother at Prairie Maid Bakery.

On April 20, 1955, Joe was united in marriage to Mary Lee Minchk and to this union seven children were born: Dennis, Gary, Jane, Steve, Sue, Cindy and Heidi. Joe had seventeen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Joe and Mary moved to Elkader and established Pedretti’s Bakery in 1968. He owned and operated the family business for thirty-five years. Over the years Joe had a lot of help at the bakery from his children and grandchildren, they all enjoyed working with him.

Joe’s hobbies included pheasant hunting with the boys, playing cards with the grandchildren, and taking his children for Sunday drives in the country. Even though baking was his life, spending time with family was very important to him.

Joe is survived by his wife, Mary; children Dennis, Jane (John Reimer), Steve (Molly), Sue (Brad Breitsprecher), Cindy (Gordon Nelson), and Heidi (Kevin Schmidt); seventeen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Bernard, William, Daniel, Michael and Leo and sisters, Anna Mae, Dolores, Margaret, Joan, Mary Jane.

Preceding him in death are his parents; sisters, Agnes and Clara and son Gary.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. March 17, 2010 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Elkader, Iowa with burial in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. and K.C. Rosary at 4 p.m. March 16, 2010 at the Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader.
