LeRoy Irvin Thompson, 74, died Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, WI, following a brief illness. He was born June 10, 1929 in rural Monona to Archie and Eltha (Kliefoth) Thompson. LeRoy graduated from Monona High School in 1947. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on April 29, 1955.
He was united in marriage to Donna Fett on August 23, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. LeRoy farmed until retirement and then he drove semi for CRST in Cedar Rapids. He was an avid bowler, golfer, enjoyed reading, snowmobiling and loved traveling to the mountains.
Survivors include his wife, Donna, Monona; three sisters, Aletha Bollman, Waverly, Dorothy (Moe) Miller, Johnston, Irma Gunderson, Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Thompson, Muscatine and many nieces and nephews.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Gerald, Gaylord, VerDean and a nephew, Larry Bollman.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 28, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, Iowa. The Rev. Allen Bidne officiated. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery, Monona.
Casketbearers were Richard, Clyde, Virgil and Roger Thompson, Harlan Haas, John Hartley, Ray Suckow and Roger Halvorson.
